New National SD Indicators - consultation open

Defra is developing a new set of sustainable development indicators to meet the Government’s commitments to transparency and sustainable development, and is carrying out an informal consultation for 12 weeks from 24th July 2012. The indicators are intended to provide an overview of the UK’s progress towards a more sustainable economy, society, and environment. The indicators are intended to provide an overview of national progress on key issues that are important economically, socially and environmentally in the long term.  Read the consultation document and complete survey

Sustainable Development Indicators and have been widely used outside of Government by academics, non-Governmental Organisations and businesses. This consultation will give stakeholders the opportunity to comment on the choice and coverage of a new set.

The consultation document sets out a range of issues and considerations that have led to the development of the proposed indicator set, including those relating to the streamlining of the indicator set, and its relationship with the proposed ONS measures of National Wellbeing. Stakeholders are encouraged to provide feedback on the proposed indicators in light of the context set out in the consultation document.
